James Van Allen

James Van Allen was a space scientist who had the Van Allen radaition belts around Earth named after him, after they were discovered in 1958 after the Explorer I and Explorer III missions, in which Van Allen insisted a radiation detecting Geiger counter should be installed on the probes.
